Kitchen Design Trends for the Hamptons

Kitchen Design Trends for the Hamptons

Homes in the Hamptons often feature coastal-inspired designs throughout all rooms, but these days, the coastal trend is fading, and minimalism is in. A sleek, modern feel creates an air of luxury, which is enough to make you feel like you’re on vacation!

Hampton homes are changing, and staying up to date on kitchen design trends is the perfect way to help yours stand out from the others. So whether you’re looking to sell, rent, or just spice up your way of life in the Hamptons, here are several kitchen design trends specific to the Hamptons.

Overall minimalism

Minimalism, clean lines, and traditional elements are in. Coastal beachy vibes, not so much. This sparse, clean look gives the luxurious appearance that Hampton homeowners are striving for. Don’t assume your kitchen has to be boring just because it’s minimal — it’s all about finding the perfect balance.

There are some major and minor tricks you can use to create a minimalist look in your Hamptons kitchen. Start small by picking and choosing, or go big with a full kitchen remodel.

A white and gray color palette

When you transform your kitchen with a minimalist style in mind, you might assume that an all-white color palette is the way to go. While white does provide a clean slate, consider bringing in some contrast. Painting the walls a light or soft gray helps to bring in that contrast and soften up the room. White cabinets are the way to go since they form the focal point of the room, but painting the walls white as well can be too much. Allow your cabinets to be the center of attention — they’ll pop against soft gray walls.

Make a colorful statement

While we’ve been focusing on clean lines and soft colors, it’s OK to make a color statement in your minimalist kitchen. There are many ways to do this, so lean into your personality. Here are some of the trendiest ways to bring a pop of color into your kitchen:

◻️ Island
◻️ Exposed appliances
◻️ Artwork
◻️ Seating
◻️ Rug
◻️ Wallpaper
◻️ Cookware

You might’ve decided on a way to bring in a pop of color, but now you have to decide on the color itself. Some of the trendiest colors for a coastal-style home include:

◻️ Navy blue
◻️ Emerald green
◻️ Turquoise
◻️ Jade green
◻️ Yellow

These bold accent colors complement a minimalist vibe. When your kitchen is mostly whites and grays, a bold and coastal color adds the perfect touch. A pop of color on the island or wherever else is a major kitchen trend throughout the US. A bold statement might just be enough to draw in some renters or buyers.

Match your countertop and backsplash

Use the same material and pattern for your backsplash and countertop to add more texture and an additional focal point while maintaining a fluid effect throughout the entire space. Marble is a fan favorite in the Hamptons — it keeps your backsplash light while giving the room an elegant appearance. You’ll want to match your countertop with your backsplash, and if you’re going with marble. The rule of thumb is “the thicker, the better.” The thicker your countertops are, the more of a high-end feel your kitchen will give off. And when it comes to the veining, “the more, the better.”

Allow your marble countertops and backsplash to be a wow factor in your space. That’s the beautiful thing about a minimalist style — when you keep things clean overall, you can have fun with the little details that’ll wow your guests.

Declutter the counters

Remove non-essential appliances from eyesight and stash them in the pantry or in a cabinet. This allows you to accentuate other elements of the kitchen while keeping a streamlined appearance. There are some appliances that can add to your aesthetic look and color palette. If that's the case, feel free to leave it out. Be mindful of the clutter you leave out to lead the eye to the details you’ve worked on. A new and high-tech way to have clean counters is by installing hidden plugs. Sometimes these are hidden in cabinets or in the countertops. For more hidden plug inspiration, check out this article by Kitchen Magic.

Bold handles and tapware

With all the clean, white, and clean elements, your handles and tapware are a place where you can have some fun. To adhere to the Hamptons style, stick to matte black or chrome hardware. Brass, while pretty, doesn’t match the Hamptons aesthetic.

After you decide on which color you want to go with, you can choose your style to add some additional flare. One of the best ways to style your hardware is by choosing a smaller knob for the upper cabinets. These upper knobs will be plentiful, so choosing a small, round design will strike a perfect balance. Then, for your lower cabinets, you can have a little more fun. Designs such as D-shaped or pull handles are a nice accent to the upper knobs. Once you decide on your kitchen hardware, take things a step further by extending your new style into the bathrooms!

Eye-catching sink

A deep, eye-catching sink is a must in a Hamptons kitchen. This sink style is not only extremely functional for cooking and entertaining, but it also adds an element of luxury to the space.

There are a few different deep-sink styles. The most popular designs to complement your Hamptons style are:

◻️ Deep butler
◻️ Farmhouse
◻️ Fire clay
◻️ Apron-front

With a kitchen as gorgeous as the one you’re creating, everyone is going to be visiting you in the Hamptons. Your sink should be beautiful but also functional for hosting those family gatherings. The depth of this eye-catching piece makes cooking and cleaning up a breeze so you can get back to socializing. Large pans and casserole dishes will be able to fully soak to make clean-up faster and easier. Hide those dishes in one of these deep sink styles to contribute to the luxurious feel of your kitchen.

Warm woods

Warm woods

Bringing warm woods into your Hamptons home is a major trend. Some earthy elements you should look to include rattan, teak, and various woven furniture and fixtures. In a bright and white space, these woods will warm and soften things up.

Some of our favorite ways to incorporate woods in your Hamptons kitchen include:

◻️ Exposed wooden shelves
◻️ Woven textured light fixtures and chairs
◻️ Wood accents
◻️ Woven-styled baskets and containers

Exposed wooden shelves give you a chance to decorate and display your favorite pieces. Whether it be a sentimental set of china or a coastal piece from a local boutique, open shelving gives you a chance to show off your personality while maintaining a minimalist style. If you decide to go with exposed shelves, be sure not to overload the space with decor to maintain a clean feel throughout. Statement lights

Another great way to bring the wow factor into your kitchen is through your lighting. Traditional statement lights are a Hampton classic. Traditional doesn’t mean it has to be boring. You can bring some fun into your lights — just remember you’re going to have a few next to each other, so stay fairly simple.

Our favorite styles for the kitchen include black or glass pendant lights. Including three to four of these simple yet elegant lights across your kitchen counter makes for another small yet beautiful detail. If you want to double up on the trends, you could use some pendant lighting with wooden accents. Not only are these woven fixtures totally in right now, but they’re a great way to warm up your space while making a statement. Woven light fixtures are the perfect way to bring in the coastal feel while staying up to date-with design trends.
